Electors in Pembrokeshire are being urged to vote when Wales goes to the polls on Thursday, May 3. The National Assembly for Wales elections gives an opportunity for the 91,725 electors in the county to exercise their democratic right. Urging people to go out and vote, Bryn Parry-Jones, the returning officer for Pembrokeshire's two constituencies and the Mid and West Wales Electoral Region, said: "Voting is the most important way to make your voice heard on the issues which concern you. "In many countries around the world - including our own - people have fought to gain the right to vote. Voting is central to the way in which our democracy works. By voting you can hold your elected representatives accountable." Voters in Pembrokeshire will be faced with two ballot papers. One will be for their constituency - either Preseli Pembrokeshire or Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire - and the other for the Mid and West Wales Electoral Region. The constituency ballot paper in Preseli Pembrokeshire will be lilac in colour, while in the Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire consituency it will be salmon coloured. Voters are asked to identify their chosen candidate from the list of names by the use of a cross in the appropriate box on the ballot paper. The second ballot paper - which is white - will decide which four candidates are elected to the Assembly from the regional list. Again, electors will be asked to select one political party or an individual candidate with the use of a cross. While candidates from the constituencies will be elected on a 'first past the post' basis - as in a UK Parliamentary election - those on the Regional List will be elected by proportional representation. The 155 polling stations in the two constituencies will be open from 7 am until 10 pm and the counting of votes will take place overnight at Withybush, Haverfordwest.
