Sunday, September 7, saw the return match at Tenby of The Saltheim Cup, Europe (last year's winners) v USA. Yet again the weather couldn't have been better, sunny with the occasional much-needed breeze! Both teams met for coffee and teas in the clubhouse where the team captains announced their pairs and the format - fourball matchplay. This year we had 'new additions' to both teams, 12 ladies on each side! We had a sponsor this year, Ian Gravell, of Gravells Narberth, providing our ladies captain Marion Clarke with a cheque for £100 for her nominated charity, Pembrokeshire Cystic Fibrosis. Both teams had their photos in front of a Kia show car which was situated in front of the Pro Shop. Game on and 9.40 saw the first pairs tee-off, followed by five other sets. Ball spotters at the ready, refreshments were loaded into a buggy, destination 'the 12th'. Yet again it was a tightly fought competition, and similar to last year, again saw the teams fighting it out on the 19th! A nail-biting experience for sure. This time USA were the champions. A truly fantastic day was had by all. All contestants sat down to a roast lunch in the clubhouse. Our thanks must go to Fair Ball and Annette Flower, team captains, catering staff, ball spotter Bob Flower, refreshments team - John Ball and Dave McMann, Rhys Harry golf pro and David Morgan for his patience with the ladies during photographs.
