Talks to bring forward ideas for Tenby’s South Parade need an ‘urgent move on’, the town’s Mayor has stated.

Discussions have been held recently over the possibility of illuminating Tenby’s historic town walls, following on from the felling of the red horse chestnut trees along the South Parade in July due to the trees being diagnosed with a fungal infection.

Councillors stated that they had been presented with a ‘blank canvas’ to determine what should be prioritised for that area of the town, and have been looking into revisiting a longstanding idea to light up the town walls, holding talks with Pembrokeshire County Council’s head of environment and civil contingencies, Richard Brown, and regeneration manager, Sinead Henehan, to discuss funding possibilities.

Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of Tenby Town Council, the Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, asked if Mr. Brown could be ‘chased up’ about South Parade as she wanted to get the matter moving urgently.

“We need an update urgently, especially in light of the flower planters along the parade being annihilated by one day of bad weather,” she said.

Clr. Laurence Blackhall floated the idea of 12 illuminated Christmas trees being introduced along the parade in the lead up to the festive period.

“Businesses could sponsor the trees to tie up with a 12 days of Christmas theme,” he suggested.
