Two fund-raising days are being held at Upton Castle, the first today (Friday) and the second on Sunday. In the grounds of the castle, there is a medieval chapel which is unique in its scale and the quality of the effigies it contains. Occasional services are held. It is understood that it was last renovated in the 1970s, but the roof is now in dire need of repair/ replacement. There is a possibility of a grant from CADW, but even so, it would not cover the full cost. The chapel receives no support from any outside body so it is hoped to be able to raise some of the money from the public. Today (Friday), wine will be be served in the rose garden from 6.30 to 8.30 pm. Entrance will be £3, including first glass of wine. On Sunday, cream teas will be served in a tent on the lawn in front of the castle from 10 am to 5 pm. Entrance will be £3 for adults and £1.50 for children. For both events, visitors will be able to walk through the extensive gardens which are particularly noted for camellias, rhododendrons and magnolias, as well as the arboretum which contains many rare trees and shrubs.
