A dramatic ‘drone display’ due to light up the night sky over Tenby harbour and North Beach tonight in support of a public safety campaign, might be postponed this week due to the weather forecast.
The display will highlight the next phase of the ‘Respect the Range’ campaign by the Ministry of Defence to keep the public safe when accessing military training areas.
The ten-minute display featuring a 100 drones is due to take-off from Tenby pier around 9.30 pm on Tuesday, August 1, with the purpose of capturing content for an upcoming PR campaign.
With the public and harbour users asked to avoid the zone that the drones are taking off from during the flight, the display can be observed from North Beach promenade, and other vantage points.
A spokesperson for the MoD gave an update this afternoon: “We are hoping the drone display set to take flight from Tenby Pier this evening will proceed as planned. Sadly, however, the weather-dependent nature of the activity and high wind forecast mean the situation is currently being reviewed.
“Designed to capture content for our Respect the Range public safety campaign, the display will go ahead as planned should wind conditions allow for the drones to fly safely.”
