As part of the National Trust's Hidden Nature campaign, Colby Woodland Garden is inviting children to join in the Bushcraft Adventure Day on Monday, May 26, 11 am - 3.30 pm. "If you're out watching wildlife you need to think like an animal - don't get seen, and don't get heard!" said Elizabeth Sleight, events co-ordinator at Colby. "We've invited Matt Oliver, of Stoatwood Bushcraft, to the woodlands to promote nature awareness and play tracking and stalking games with children. To see wild animals you need to be able to walk stealthily, observe carefully and even sniff out where creatures live. Nature is all around us, it is just a matter of knowing what to look for." As well as the nature walks and sensory games, Matt and his team will be demonstrating how fire is made by friction, and how to make natural cordage from willow bark, plus many other bushcraft skills. For younger children there will be plenty of fun crafts in the Bothy and Rupert Bear will be calling by to meet children during the day. Normal admission applies, plus £1 to join in the activities. National Trust members and under 5s admitted free of charge. For further information, call 01834 811885.
