GLYNNEATH 23 pts
TENBY UNITED 14
Tenby United are back on the bottom of division three west of the National League after slipping to another defeat at the hands of Glynneath on Saturday.
It was the Seasiders' sixth reversal in eight matches, enabling Felinfoel to leap-frog above them after the Llanelli side's surprise win over Aberavon Quins.
Nevertheless, the United should not feel too dispirited. In fact, they can take great heart from their performance, as they continue to improve as the season goes on.
Again they battled hard throughout, showing great determination and commitment, and there were promising displays from some of the youngsters, backed by some of the experienced 'old heads'.
Up front, 'veteran' Mike Evans continued to revel in his welcome return to the side with another towering display at the back of the scrum.
Indeed, along with hard-working skipper Nicky Allen and Chris Brace, he helped form a pretty formidable back row unit, who were were conspicuous with their tireless efforts around the park.
Young prop Lee Tucker was also prominent at the heart of the pack, while Matt Cammack produced good work at the lineout, to help provide some useful possession for the eager back line, in which winger Gareth Jones stood out with his determined running.
Jones also got through a lot of work in defence with some tigerish tackling, and later received the man of the match award for his efforts.
After a solid start, however, Tenby's hopes suffered a setback when Glynneath scrum-half Dave Harrett banged over a couple of penalties to open up a six-point lead for his side.
And it was not long before that was more than doubled as half-back partner Paul Davies crossed for a try, with Harrett adding the extras with a successful conversion.
At the other end, fly-half Neil Powling was off target with a couple of penalty attempts for the visiting Seasiders.
But the United did not let their heads drop and battled their way back into the contest before the half-time break with a good try of their own.
It came when Cammack leapt to win good lineout ball and as the pack supported him they produced a concerted effort to drive on and a delighted prop Gareth Noot popped out to grab the touchdown.
Powling this time found the target with his conversion attempt to leave the half-time score at 13-7.
Bouyed by this score, the United must have been hopeful of turning things around in the second half, but they were rocked again early on when fly-half Davies grabbed his second try soon after the start.
Harrett added the extras from the conversion to leave the United again facing a 13-point deficit and something of a mountain to climb.
Despite this, the Seasiders stuck to their task manfully and were rewarded for their efforts in the last quarter when skipper Allen picked up a loose ball inside the home 22 and raced in for a deserved touchdown.
Powling slotted over the conversion to give the United some hope of snatching the spoils, but it was not to be, Harrett landing his third penalty in the closing stages to seal victory for a relieved Glynneath.
Tenby fielded: Neil Powling, Gareth Jones, Gavin Brace, Jonathan Dodd, Nicky Rees, Dean Bowen, Neil Duffy, Gareth Noot, Richard Rossiter, Lee Tucker, Matt Cammack, Paul Broaders, Chris Brace, Nicky Allen, Mike Evans.
