Tenby United Seconds travelled to play Crymych on Saturday, bolstered by two first team players, Neil Powling and Darren Rees, with the rest of the first team squad having a free weekend.

The front row of Mark Brace, Penfold and Simon Morgan competed very well against a very good Crymych pack which was very mobile and one which tackled everything that moved.

The second rows, Gavin Nicholas and Chris James, dominated their own ball and disrupted Crymych lineouts, which enabled the back row of evergreen captain Chris Brace, Justin Richards and Ben Diment to get among the Crymych forwards.

Over the whole game, the bigger Tenby pack should have dominated more, but were undone by a more mobile and fitter pack which worked together as a unit.

Crymych had established a six-nil lead at half-time, which they deserved, as Tenby's poor handling at times and wrong options proved costly.

In the second half, Tenby's backs showed glimpses of what they could do if they had a bit more ball, with Neil Powling and Dean Rees having a few good runs, but the support wasn't there and numerous times they were turned over.

To Tenby's credit, despite the numerous penalties they were awarded, each time captain Chris Brace opted to run the ball - even three very kickable penalties under the posts.

Wings James Davies and Jason Newell tackled very well and fullback John Webb was as solid as ever.

Crymych scored in the corner after some good work from their pack with 15 minutes remaining.

Tenby then sent on Delwyn Brace for Penfold and Niki Guymer for Ben Diment, and the last 10 minutes saw constant pressure from Tenby, with good runs coming from Justin, Gavin and Niffy, but the Crymych defence was outstanding, as it had been all game.

The Seconds' boys are now looking forward to the return at Heywood Lane in November during the autumn internationals, and will expect another tough game.
