CWMAVON 41 pts
TENBY UNITED 5
A somewhat scratch Tenby United side, which included several youth players, struggled against high-flying Cwmavon on Saturday, eventually going down by 41 points to five.
With major playmakers like Mike Evans, Matt Cammack, Chris Brace and Sion Brace unavailable for this National League division three (west) fixture, the Seasiders took the opportunity to introduce some of the up-and-coming members of their youth squad into the line-up but, while they showed tremendous promise, they could not contain a Cwm side hot on the promotion trail.
As in their clash at Heywood Lane in November, it was the ruthless efficiency of the Cwm pack, coupled with the pace and inventiveness of their three-quarter line, that did the damage, with the homesters outscoring the United by seven tries to one.
The homesters grabbed three early tries to set them on the course to victory and, while prop Mark Badham crashed over for a touchdown from a driving maul, the Seasiders were facing an uphill task at the break, trailing by 20 points to five.
Four further tries after the change around for Cwm put the result beyond any doubt.
Key figure for Cwm once again was former Tenby scrum-half Richard Evans, who relished the cut and thrust against his old team-mates from the inside-half berth, bagging himself a brace of tries in the process.
Flanker Huw Edwards proved himself to be no slouch in the touchdown department either, also picking up two tries, while wing Justin Knight, centre Adrian Jones and replacement scrum-half Gareth John also breached the Tenby defences.
Tenby have a break from league action tomorrow (Saturday). No doubt they will be marshalling their forces for vital fixtures against Vardre and Birchgrove over the next few weeks.
Tenby United fielded: Jonathan Dodd, Jason Newell, Carl Broaders, Gavin Brace, Will Crockford, Neil Powling, Neil Duffy, Lee Tucker, Richard Rossiter, Mark Badham, Justin Richards, Paul Broaders, Andrew Dennis, Nicky Allen (capt.), Rob James.
