A new suite of solid oak furniture is being created for Pembroke Castle by local Pembrokeshire craftsman, Jake Humphries, of Uniqueworks.

Work has just started on crafting the first table, at his workshops in Pembroke Dock, and a further seven, together with traditional matching benches will be added. The bespoke furniture is fashioned from locally sourced and grown Welsh timber, and will be of a high quality in keeping with the castle’s heritage.

Jake will use traditional wood-jointing techniques which would have been familiar to craftsmen at the time of Henry VII, founder of the Tudor Dynasty, who was born at Pembroke Castle.

Uniqueworks have previously created heritage furniture for The Botanic Garden of Wales and represented contemporary Welsh craftsmanship with their furniture for the Leaders’ Lounge at the NATO Summit Wales.

The newly-crafted tables and benches will be unveiled, ready for the public to use in the Castle Café, later in the year.
