Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a death following the discovery of an unidentified body in the car park at Freshwater West.

The body was discovered just before 6.30 am on Wednesday and police said the death was being treated as 'unexplained'.

Initially the road into Freshwater West was closed at both ends to facilitate the police investigation, but was re-opened later in the day.

As we went to press, however, police said they were unable to confirm if the body was male or female.

Meanwhile, anyone who has information that may help the investigation is asked to contact police on 101 immediately.
