When police were called to the Heritage Park at Stepaside on Friday evening they found nine young people and evidence of underage drinking.
The youngsters, both male and female, were aged between 13 and 16, and it was evident that some of them had been drinking alcohol.
"Recovered at the scene was a partly consumed one-litre bottle of vodka, a partly consumed half-bottle of gin and in excess of a dozen cans of lager," said a police spokesman. "There were also numerous empty cans in the vicinity.
"The alcohol was appropriately destroyed!
"It is appropriate that this information is passed to the community at large so that parents and guardians are aware of the prevailing dangers of young people coming together to consume alcohol," added the spokesman. "The source of the alcohol purchase has not been identified."
