A 44-year-old local motorist was banned from driving for two years by magistrates in Tenby this week after he appeared before them for driving whilst over three times the legal drink-drive limit.
Joseph Lyden, of Ventnor Hotel, Warren Street, Tenby, admitted driving with excess alcohol on May 8 when he came before the court sitting in the town on Tuesday.
The court heard that on the night in question, Lyden had driven the van - belonging to a building and window fitting company with whom he was employed - because he had to pick up work colleagues the following morning.
He was stopped by police near his home at approximately 10.30 pm after information was received on the driver's condition.
Lyden had trouble finding the keys to turn the engine off and needed assistance in exiting the vehicle, the bench heard.
He refused to give a roadside breath test and as a result was taken to Tenby police station, where an intoxiliser test showed he was over the drink-drive limit, with 117 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of breath. The legal limit is 35.
As well as the ban, Lyden who had a previous drink-drive conviction in 1984, was fined £220 and ordered to pay £45 in costs.
