Saundersfoot Sports II 1
Goodwick United II 2
Sports gave up a long unbeaten home league record to Goodwick on Saturday, but not without a fight!
Looking to close the gap on second placed United, Saundersfoot made a great start to the match, when centre back Mike Cornick made his way into the penalty box and connected with a Jamie Morgan corner to give his side the lead midway through the first half.
With tempers flaring up early in the game, things spilled over soon after Sports had gone ahead, when the referee dismissed Goodwick's left-back for an unsavoury challenge. However, a touchline fracas involving the sent-off player, saw Sports' Tom Spencer also being given his marching orders after getting involved, to leave both sides with 10 men.
Shortly before half-time, Martin Griffiths levelled the scores when he rose unmarked at the back post for an easy close range header.
With the match very much in the balance for most of the second half, both sides went close with efforts from outside the box, with Sports' 'keeper Scott Davidson pulling off one outstanding save from a Goodwick effort to palm the ball round the post.
However, it was another cross that saw the away side take the lead when once again Griffiths netted from close range after Sports failed to clear.
Wide men Luke Trevis and Grant Hardy made a couple of decent runs on the flanks to try and get the home team back in the game, but Goodwick held firm until the final whistle and took the three points.
