Whitland recently celebrated its 21st anniversary of twinning with Pipriac, in Brittany.
On May 18, a coach carrying 40 members of the Whitland Twinning Association left for their biennial sojourn to France, but this was no ordinary trip, because it was a celebration of their twinning 'coming of age' and promised to be a very memorable occasion.
Upon arriving in Pipriac on May 19, the twinners were given a warm welcome by their hosts and the Mayor of Pipriac at a Champagne reception at the Salle Polyvalente before going to their hosts' houses.
The next day, a trip was arranged to visit Comper's Castle, near Paimpont, then on to a modern milk farm for a demonstration and refreshments.
Friday saw a visit to the Salt Pans of Guerande, followed by a beautiful lunch in a picturesque setting, then on to Le Croisie.
Saturday morning and the twinners visited Rennes market, a favourite on the itinerary, and in the evening a soiree at the 'Auberge de Pipriac', where, after a sumptuous meal, some of the twinners entertained their hosts with what can only be described as a 'Star Studded Musical Extravaganza'.
On Sunday, the twinners were treated to a barbecue in the woods, courtesy of the Bertin's, which was enjoyed by everyone, hosts and twinners alike.
Alas, on Monday, it was time to leave Pipriac and head home after what had proved to be a most successful twinning trip in glorious weather.
En route to St. Malo and the ferry home, there was enough time to stop at Mont St. Michel.
The next twinning meeting will be on Tuesday, June 22, at the Memorial Hall, Whitland, at 7.30 pm.
Newcomers welcome.
On Sunday, July 4, a barbecue will be held at Central, Clunderwen. Information and tickets are available from Kathy Phillips on (01437) 563434.
