An innovative refuse vehicle will be seen on Pembrokeshire's roads this week as the county council trials a new type of lorry aimed at making our waste and recycling collections more efficient.

The vehicle, known in the industry as a Twin Pack, has two separate bodies at the rear to enable the orange and black bags to be collected independently - with no risk of contamination. Once full, the orange bags will be taken to a state- of-the-art materials recycling facility, while the black bags will be sent to landfill.

The trial will place in Neyland on Tuesday, Llawhaden, Martletwy and surrounding areas on Wednesday, and Milford Haven town centre on Thursday.

Cabinet spokesperson for environment, planning and regulatory services, Clr. Huw George, said he's looking forward to seeing the results. "We are trialling this vehicle to see if it suits our method of collecting waste and recyclable materials," he said. "The Twin Pack is used successfully in other areas of the UK and it will be interesting to see if it works for us. "I also want to make it clear that just because the orange and black bags will be collected in the same vehicle, under no circumstances will it all be disposed at landfill.

"The orange bags will still be discharged at the materials recycling facility in order for them to separated and sent to various markets." The trial is expected to last three days.
