One in four adults will suffer from mental health issues at some time in their life, and 10 per cent of children are suffering at any one time.

With these statistics in mind, Llanion Communities First funded and organised a Youth Mental Health First Aid training course for community members in Pembroke Dock.

The course covered all aspects of mental health issues that can affect young people, and equipped the participants with the knowledge of how best to offer support, both emotionally and practically.

Twelve people qualified over the two days and all feedback was thoroughly positive. Participants felt more confident on how to support young people and happy that they would be able to help break the stigma of mental health. The earlier appropriate help is given, the less impact the issue could have on individuals, and society.

The course is endorsed by the Welsh Assembly Government and MIND and the trainer was Peter Green.
