The 49th annual meeting of the Welsh Turkey Federation, presided over by Stephen Goldbourne, of Carmarthen, was held at St. Clears, on Friday, when members present were updated on events of the past year, new production methods, health and safety requirements and market prospects for the festive trade. Mrs. Susan Scale, Haverfordwest, was elected chairman for the coming year and her husband, Peter, as chairman-elect, for what will be the golden jubilee year of the federation. The guest speaker was Wiltshire-born, Richie Kenchington, who is presently practicing homeopathic treatment for all types of livestock at Settle, North Yorkshire. The speaker highlighted the rapid advances of this technology over recent years in relation to avian health which has made possible environment and disease control as never before. The object of these new initiatives, he said, was to create a new system of healthcare reducing and eventually replacing toxic chemical and drug therapy. The results of the fresh turkey competition, judged by Peter Moore and Edward Dingle, of Hereford, were: 17lbs and under: 1. Peter and Susan Scale; 2. Edward Morris, Pembroke; 3.
