Sir,
Further to the letter you printed last week from Mrs. Sybil Evans, of Shrewsbury, I wish to inform you that I, too, have suffered a recent injury whilst walking through the long tunnel coming from Wiseman’s Bridge on Thursday, August 24. I could see a group of people walking towards me, so I veered very slightly to the left to allow them to pass and walked straight into a wall that juts out but can’t be seen. The result is that, although it has not yet been definitely diagnosed as a break, I have my left arm in a plaster cast. As you can imagine, it is not only painful, but very inconvenient and interferes greatly with everyday living.
I have reported the incident to Saundersfoot council and was told they would look into the matter and get back to me, but as yet I have heard nothing. They informed me that lights could not be installed in that tunnel ‘because of the bats’ Maybe that’s fair enough, but surely some sort of luminous paint could be applied to the danger areas of jutting out walls?
In these days of strict ‘health and safety’ regulations, I am amazed that nothing has been done to limit the risks of injury to people walking through that particular tunnel. It is probably only a matter of time before a really serious injury occurs.
Andrea Harris,
Newport.
