Life in the 16th century in Tenby must have been an interesting time! The merchants who lived in the National Trust's Tudor Merchant's House would have lived in a town where the trade was bustling and many different languages.

The port books kept in those times which showed the goods being imported and exported list a wide range of things. The Tudor Merchant's House has records of some of these for each month, including wines, oils and vinegars with wool and coal being exported.

Did you know that in Tudor times 21,900lbs of cheese was exported to Ireland - after some research it was found that this was to provide food for the troops there - but who made the cheese over here?

Simon Hancock, curator of the Haverfordwest Museum, will be the Tudor Chatter on Thursday, October 9, at 7 pm. His talk will be about Pirates and Smugglers and how the merchants carried out their trade when there were others around who may have liked to take a close interest in their work! Come along and find out! A fascinating talk is promised! Booking is essential and tickets are £5 each.
