On Boxing Day 2004, the biggest disaster in recent history occurred when a tsunami destroyed parts of Indonesia, The Maldives, Sri Lanka and Somalia, killing more than 200,000 innocent victims. Caused by the second biggest earthquake of all time (9.3 magnitude), this tidal wave travelled 150 miles in from the Indian Ocean and reached heights of 65 feet. However, this tragic event brought the world closer, as everyone, rich and poor, are pulling together to help these people and the fund-raising has even spread to our own county of Pembrokeshire. A few weeks ago, Tenby Bowling Club held a fund-raiser to raise funds for the tsunami appeal. The event raised £1,078, a much-needed and welcome sum to help the people in these countries to overcome what has happened. Among prizes donated by a number of local businesses, the main prize was a luxury long weekend break, provided by FBM Holidays. The prize included a four-night stay in one of the company's luxury apartments. Mr. Tim Brace, partner of FBM Holidays, donated this prize, stating that he wanted to do what he could for the cause. The lucky winner was Mr. H. Brown, of Ammanford. Already on holiday with FBM Holidays, Mr. Brown decided to stay on and took the holiday then and there in order to stay an additional four nights in Tenby. Mr. Brown returned to his home in Ammanford on Tuesday, September 13, extremely happy with his stay in Pembrokeshire and is likely to book again next year. FBM Holidays is delighted that Mr. Brown and family enjoyed their stay in Pembrokeshire and is proud that they could do their bit to help the tsunami appeal.
