The first of the Gwent League cross country races was held in Bridgend. Nine TROT ladies ran. The TROT ladies team were the winning team. This is a great effort considering TROTs compete against university teams.
Positions of the ladies were as follows: Nicola Sykes 2nd, Ann Thomas 6th, Mel Watson 10th, Caryl Jones 14th, Mary Bowen Rees 32nd, Caroline Jones 44th, Lindy Eynon 68th, Ann Rowell 95th and Pauline Thomas 118th.
The men's team ran well. Their positions were as follows: Ian Williams 4th, Mike Evans 49th, Kevin Griffiths 61st, Cyril Walters 246th, Chris Birch 270th, Ian Morris 274th and Mike Hodges 309th.
Following this race, Ann Thomas, Mel Watson, Mary Bowen Rees and Pauline Thomas were selected to run for Wales in the Masters cross country race in November.
Seven TROTs ran the Snowdon marathon. The conditions were tough, which slowed the finishing times, but all the TROTs successfully completed it. Mike Evans was 33rd, Dean John 65th, Roger Coombs 130th, Kevin Griffiths 282nd, Claire Clethero 424th, Tracy Sharratt 828th and Mike Hodges 1,083rd.
