Local schoolchildren were delighted to see a piece of history in the form of the Triple Crown and Grand Slam trophies in advance of breaking for the school holidays last term. Courtesy of Princes Gate Spring Water, official water sponsor of the Welsh Rugby Union, the trophies visited both Narberth and Tavernspite primary schools, where each class was invited to have a professional photograph taken by Kevin Jones, of All About You photography.
The schoolchildren really got into the spirit of things on the day, and there was a plethora of Welsh flags, bunting and inflatable daffodils.
Narberth School coincided the visit with a charity balloon release, making it even more special. Tavernspite School also heightened the sense of national pride and schoolchildren were invited to don their choice of rugby-related or traditional Welsh attire.
Representatives of Princes Gate Spring Water and the WRU were also treated to Tavernspite choir singing passionate renditions of Welsh songs. Teacher, Nicola Owen, went that extra mile and baked and decorated a special Welsh rugby-themed cake to mark the occasion.
Of the reception the trophies received, Chrissie Owen, a marketing executive with the WRU, commented: "The day was so special and I feel so fortunate to have witnessed it. It's great to see at grass roots the passion from children as young as four - it's why we are in the business of promoting Welsh rugby, and it matters a great deal that we share in our nation's successes. Thank you to all of the schoolchildren and teachers alike for the wonderful welcome we received."
Nicola Merriman, senior brand manager with Princes Gate Spring Water, added: "We feel so proud to be able to share this experience with local youngsters. It's a great opportunity to give them a sense of pride in a local business sponsoring our national sport."
Princes Gate Spring Water has recently extended the agreement with the WRU for a further four years, marking the close relationship between both organisations. Future local initiatives involving the WRU are on the agenda - as are more planned visits by the trophies after the next six nations - provided the boys deliver!
