A SCHOOLGIRL with local family connections has been chosen to represent the Welsh Guides in an international jamboree in New Zealand next year.
Fifteen-year-old Jordan Harbin, who attends Porthcawl Comprehensive School, is a member of the Girl Guides and was nominated to attend an International Selections Day in September.
Her father Richard Harbin was born in Tenby and is the son of Sylvia Harbin, who still lives in the town at Rectory Court.
Jordan, who along with her dad and mum Lesley now live in Porthcawl, was chosen to attend the Girl Guide Jamboree in Christchurch, New Zealand, in January with seven other Welsh Girl Guides following a tough day of testing activities.
They will meet Guides from all over the world, exchanging Guiding traditions and learning about the cultures and traditions of other Guides. Jordan now has the task of fund-raising to help cover the cost of the trip of a lifetime which is more than £2,200.
She has been busy organising various events to help raise money, including pub quizzes, bag packing in supermarkets, while groups of Guides all over the country are also holding a sponsored 'Polo mint suck'.
Jordan has also helped to organise a raffle where the first prize is four tickets to watch the Welsh rugby team in training, and then join them for a meal at the Vale of Glamorgan Hotel. Anyone able to offer any help in sponsorship, can contact Jordan on 01656 786558.
