Would-be competitors for the Pembrokeshire Coast Triathlon, organised by Pembrokeshire Triathlon Club, have until Saturday, June 27, to get their entries in.

Interest in the event, which takes place on Saturday, July 11, has been high, with over 100 entries already received, from across the UK, but a good number from Pembrokeshire and, especially, host village Broad Haven!

The triathlon returns to Broad Haven, having been last held there in 1997. The event consists of a 1500m swim, 43k bike, and a 10.2k run. New bike and run courses have been designed, as well as a new transition area, and the run takes in a spectacular section of the Coast Path.

The event is sponsored by Timber Hill Self Catering Timber Lodges, Rockpool Design, Station Self Drive, Julia Hill Photography, The Galleon Inn, and Triexercise of Milford Haven, with support for promotional materials from Pembrokeshire Tourism.

There will be children's fun events on the beach after the race, as well as evening entertainment in the village. There are excellent prizes for category winners, as well as many spot prizes open to all finishers. The race is part of the Welsh Triathlon Grand Prix Series, and is round two of the Pembrokeshire Tri Multisport Challenge. People of all abilities are welcome, and relay teams of two or three are particularly encouraged. Local employers are also being encouraged to enter relay teams to battle it our for the Corporate Challenge prize.

The event is supporting the Wales Air Ambulance, a charity that provides emergency air ambulance services throughout Wales. Since being formed in 2001, the generosity of the public has enabled the charity's helicopters to fly over 10,500 missions. In 2009, the charity has to begin upgrading its fleet of helicopters, which means it will need to raise around £4 million per year to keep flying.
