Pembrokeshire Triathlon Club is enticing local people to the exciting world of multi-sport by running a duathlon in Haverfordwest on Saturday, March 10. Duathlon is similar to triathlon - only without the swimming! The usual format is for a run, followed by a bike section, and then a second run. The club is staging a small event aimed at newcomers and its existing club members. The distances will be fairly short: a 5km run, followed by a 14.7km bike, and finally a 1.8km run to finish. The race is based at Haverfordwest Cricket Club, and will be run on a very informal basis. For more information, contact Luke Watson on 01437 760849, or visit the club web-site (http://www.pembrokeshire-tri.org.uk">www.pembrokeshire-tri.org.uk) where you can find an entry form and a race information pack. The following month, the club will once again be staging its own short distance triathlon, again ideal for novices. The event involves a 400m pool swim, 15.5km bike, and 3.1km run, and will be held on Sunday, April 29. For more information, visit the club website or contact Darren Evans on 07855 540241. The minimum age for both races is 15 (as at December 31, 2007), but there is no maximum age limit! Spaces are limited to just 30 for the duathlon, and 32 for the triathlon, so anyone interested in taking part needs to move fast. The events will be ideal preparation for anyone thinking of tackling one of the races at this year's Pembrokeshire Triathlon in Fishguard on Sunday, July 1. There will be two events, an 'standard' distance race consisting of a 1500m swim, 40km bike and 10km run, and a 'sprint' distance race over 750m swim, 25km bike and 5km run. For more information on the Pembrokeshire Triathlon, visit http://www.the-multisport.org">www.the-multisport.org, telephone 01639 761619, or keep an eye on the Pembrokeshire Triathlon Club website. There you will also find details of other local and national events, including four events staged by Llanelli Triathlon Club (a half marathon, duathlon, triathlon and 10k). Pembrokeshire Triathlon Club holds weekly training sessions, as well as a series of time trials for swimming, cycling and running. The club welcomes people of all abilities and has a well established junior section with around 50 members, Pembrokeshire Tristars. Anyone thinking about giving triathlon a go is welcome at any of the club sessions where advice on all aspects of triathlon is on hand.
