The match played on Thursday, June 24, was at Trefloyne between the hosts and their very near and feared neighbours from Tenby.
For the week before this encounter, the clubhouse was abuzz with enthusiasm and wonderment as to who would partner who and what the result would be.
Tenby had not won at Trefloyne for some years, so optimism of a home win was running high, and so it once again turned out to be, with the hosts winning eight and halving three to give them a fantastic and totally unexpected 9.5-1.5 victory.
Alas, due to a prior appointment, I was unable to celebrate the win with the players. However, I am eagerly looking forward to the Priscilly match.
I am unable to elaborate on the matches due to my absence, but most of the golfers concurred on the immaculate condition of the course, apart from the excessive rough which was the main reason for complaints about 'slow play', with some matches taking up to an unacceptable five hours.
Please Trefloyne, we are Seniors and would love to get in quite a bit quicker!
Results: Graham Harrison and Bob Burks beat Bob Howse and Robin Hagley 1 up; Darrell Jones and John James halved with Nigel Rimmell and Alan Watts; Trevor Lewis and Les Edrop beat Brian Morgan and Paul Bradley 2 and 1; Roger Cryer and Glyn Latcham beat Jim Martin and Owen Monaghan 5 and 3; Mel Neale and Martin Davies (playing his first match) beat J.D.R. Williams and Roy Morgan; Rob Evans and Mel Beeley beat Mike Fox and Colin Griffiths 4 and 3; Gary and Wyn Hopkins (no relations) beat Rod Clarke and Alan Yates 3 and 2; John Shaw and Garfield Price beat Geoff Aston and Brian Waters; Jack and Angelo Zeraschi (they are brothers) halved with John Hancock and Dave Miller; Denis Busby and Bob Maxwell beat Ken Gouldsborough and Malcolm Arlott 2 and 1; Pat Casement and Keith Warmington halved with Derek Bath and John Hall.
Trefloyne emerged triumphant by 9.5 to Tenby's 1.5.

Trefloyne Junior Open 2010
A glorious Sunday afternoon saw over 80 juniors take to the course at Trefloyne in beautiful sunshine and a light summers breeze.
Both novice golfers as young as eight and the more experienced county players (many of which playing the course for the first time) did themselves proud with some excellent scores being returned throughout the day.
The event was organised by junior organiser, Sue Ensor, who dedicated hours of her spare time to make sure everything went smoothly on the day.
A big thank you to her and those who helped on the day with starting and ball spotting. Getting 90 eager juniors around the course is not easy!
On completion of their rounds, each junior was treated to a selection of lunches from the Terrace Restaurant. A big thank you to Tom, Sarah and the team for their efforts throughout the day.
Five competitions were held in all ranging from a blue tee flag competition to medal and stableford competitions for both the boys and the girls.
Results: blue tee flag - Ben Thomas; red tee medal - Beth Morris; red tee stableford - Amber Thomas; white tee medal - Rhys Watkins; yellow tee stableford - William Morris.
Ryder Cup Countdown 2010
Tip of the week: With the first of our regular weekly tips, I would like to start at the tee box.
Preparation and a solid pre-shot routine are the key to any consistent, repetitive golf swing.
When standing on a familiar tee most golfers tend to take for granted that they know where the danger is. Take a step back and highlight in your mind the danger areas (red zones), followed by the safe areas (green zones).
Whilst highlighting these areas, pick something on the horizon to aim at. Choosing something on the ground like a bunker can cause a negative physiological response. You'll be surprised how your alignment/direction off the tee can change resulting in more fairways being hit.
Next week, I'll be looking at 100-200 yard approach play.
