On Sunday, Trefloyne welcomed junior sections from all over the county and further afield for its Annual Junior Open.
There was an entry of over 70 from Machynys, Tenby, Haverfordwest, Milford Haven, Newport Links, Derllys Court, Glynhir, Cardigan, South Pembs and Trefloyne, itself, and it was particularly pleasing to welcome the first entries into a competition from the newly-formed Dawn till Dusk Junior Academy.
There were medal, stableford and 54-flag competitions and we knew we were in for a great day on the golf course, especially as the youngest player, Alex Young, was just five - and his golf bag was bigger than him!
The event, carefully organised by Oliver, Mary and Trefloyne Junior organiser, Mike Burke, ran like clockwork, with tee times starting from 8.20 am and finishing at 12.
With all the cards in and Mary finally being let out of the office, the presentation took place in the marquee on the terrace, with Mike welcoming and congratulating all the players.
The results were as follows:
Medal: 1. Blake Jones - nett 67; 2. Ben Steele - 70; 3. Sam Barton - 70 on countback.
Stableford: 1. Billy Truman - 40 pts; 2. Jack Harris - 39.
Girls stableford winner: Bethan Morris - 36 pts.
Blue tee 54-flag: 1. Steff Jones (2nd fairway); 2. Joonas Jaakola (2nd tee); 3. George Taylor (9th green).
Long Drive: white - Sam Barton; yellow - Rhys Davies; red - Beth Morris; blue - Steff Jones.
Nearest the pin: white - Greg Palin (2m 17cm); yellow - Jack Harries (4m 82cm); red - Beth Morris (4m 54cm), blue - Joonas Jaakola.
The day was a fantastic day for junior golf, with all the players starting their round with a smile and ending with a smile. We very much look forward to welcoming back everyone next year.
