Ladies' Section

On Tuesday, the ladies and seniors played a mixed foursomes. There was a good turnout on a day when the weather looked a bit iffy. All were raring to go.

Chris Collinson, Vicky Burks, Graham Harrison and Steve Scanlon headed the field and set off looking forward to a great day of golf. When all players were in the presentation took place.

First were Barry Wood and Ann Dassen with 44 points, while second on countback were John James and Heather Thorne with 43.Both pairs received vouchers and wine.

Chris Collinson, lady captain, thanked everybody and congratulated the winners.

Both Trever and Chris hope to organise another mixed foursomes later in the year.

On Saturday, the Challenge Bowl was played for and the winner in Division One was Caroline Fletcher, with Beth McMann winning Division Two.

The Sunday Swingers was won by Liz Crockford with 30 points. Liz played like a person possessed - someone said that something in last week's report got her wound up. Well let's hope that this week's report has the same effect. Well done Elizabeth!

Men's Section

There was another good turnout for the Wednesday night roll-up. Tee times varied between 5 and 5.45 pm, with plenty of light left for the later starters.

The winner this week was Brian Anderson with 20 points - not bad considering he blobbed the first hole.

So a speech was made and with much pomp and ceremony the beer vouchers were handed over.

Saturday was the monthly medal and as usual there was a good turnout, including the sun. The results were:

Division One - 1. Adam Thorne, nett 68; 2. Robin Lloyd 74; 3. Lewis Hurlow 75.

Division Two - 1. Keith Hubbard, nett 71; 2. Ashley Jones 79; 3. Barry Neale 80.

The Sunday Swingers were a bit low on numbers this week due to holidays and hangovers. We were, however, blessed by the return of 'Mr. Charm' himself, Mel Beeley. Nice to see you back, Mel, we all look forward to being on the receiving end of your sledging as we progress round the course.

Seniors' section

Our second match this season was a home one against Carmarthen. This time the sun failed to appear, but the rains stayed away also.

Unfortunately, Trefloyne were a man short due to illness, and captain Trevor decided to let his partner take the missing place. Setting off against Mike Davies and Ray Heath, Trevor found himself playing catch-up, without too much success, the visitors posting a 6 and 5 win.

Graham Harrison and Terry Harvey had a close game with Colin Lewis and Alun Rees, but eventually lost.

Third away were Darrell Jones and Wyn Hopkins versus Tony Hurd and Ken James. This was another tight game, with the visitors taking an early lead. Fortunes changed at the seventh, which started a string of pars from Darrell to give him and Wyn a 2 and 1 win.

Pat Casement and Derek Jones took on Alun Davies and Richard Allen. In a whirlwind round, a couple of birdies from Derek and steady play from Pat gave them a 6 and 5 win - well played.

Next away were Glyn Latcham and John Morgan, playing his first game for the Seniors, against Dai Elias and Ray Rees. Both home lads had a storming game, getting another 6 and 5 win for Trefloyne.

Penultimate pair off the first were John Hargrave and Garfield Price taking on Dave Reay and Malcolm Gelder.

The last pair on the first were Dave Crowley and Denis Busby against Selwyn Humphries and Simon Barrett. This was a nip and tuck game which could have gone either way, but finally ended 3 and 1 to Carmarthen.

Meanwhile, the other three foursomes were starting on the 10th. First away were Richard Davies and John Perrott versus Graham Williams and Dave Goodman. The visitors found the course to their liking, winning 4 and 3.

Following were Steve Scanlon and Jack Zeraschi against Howard Davies and Dennis Driscoll. A good win for the home pair by 3 and 2.

Finally, John James and Martin Davies set off with Jimmy Myo and Ross Butler. Early on the game was even, but wins on the 17th and 18th gave John and Martin a two-hole lead at the halfway stage. They dropped one at the first, but took the next two, halved the fourth, then won the next two for a 4 and 3 win.

Overall a good win for Trefloyne by six games to four.

Thanks to the catering staff for an excellent meal and to the ground staff for the well-prepared course.
