Ladies' Section
There was an extremely good turnout of 17 ladies for last Tuesday's competition, which was once again played in glorious sunshine. Results were: 1. Liz Crockford 31 pts, 2. Rita Collins 30, 3. Eunice Parkes 28.
The spring spirit competition, held on Saturday, was won by Anna Hubbard with 35 points, second was Lind Coward with 33 and Heather Thorne came third with 32.
Sunday swingers was again well attended and the results were: 1. Heather Thorne 27 pts, 2. Gwyneth Jewitt 26.
Heather Thorne has won the ladies' winter swingers trophy - well done Heather.
So it's back to normal handicaps for the summer swingers competition.
Men's Section
Tuesday's pro shop stableford was won by Pat Casement with 37 points, after countback from both David Crowley, second, and Meurig Evans, third.
Thursday's seniors' roll-up was won by Barry Thorne with 34 points and Derek Jones came second with 32 after countback from David Crowley.
Mel Neale, who is well known for forgetting people's names and the occasional mishap with his attire, went one further on Thursday - he forgot to turn his trolley off when he took his driver out of the bag at the second tee and it was last seen speeding along the fairway with Robin Lloyd in hot pursuit.
Robin blamed his poor round on Sunday on the fact that his legs were still aching!
The first seniors' fixture is on Thursday, March 24, against Milford Haven, so don't forget to put your names down.
The spring spirit competition, held on Saturday, was won by Graham Harrison with a very creditable 39 points (funny how he only scores well when there is alcohol involved!). Second was Robin Lloyd with 38 points and third was Meurig Evans with 37.
After being reunited with his clubs, Mel Neale had the nerve to win both the stableford and swingers competitions with, despite the glorious conditions, a relatively low score of 33 points. Second was Robin (the retriever) Lloyd with 31, after countback from Martin Yates.
The conditions were perfect for some very good golf to be played and high scores to be achieved, but it just didn't happen. Despite this, a good time was had by all as we all sat on the sun terrace and rued the missed chances and the 'what could have beens'!
