With no end in sight to the cold spell that we are experiencing, it's fair to say that record-breaking golf is not on the cards at the moment and I give my congratulations to anyone who has braved the elements to play (writes M.R.).
The Turkey Trot held on Sunday was won by Keith Hubbard with 35 points, while the bag draw went to Mark Ensor, rewarding him with £8.credit.
The ladies' Chicken Run, also held on Sunday, was won by Anna Hubbard, while the bag draw went to Ann Dassen.
Anna and Kieth Hubbard will be presented with meat vouchers for their win, so we all know where to go for Christmas lunch!
Unfortunately, there are no other results to report from this week, apart from the beating that Barry Thorne got from his wife Heather (although they wouldn't disclose their scores) during their games on Sunday, which continues Barry's losing streak after coming second to Ann Dassen in bridge.
Ladies
Tuesday's competition was a nine-hole foursomes matchplay. First prize went to Chris Lewis and Ann Dassen and runners-up were Chris Collinson and Eunice Parkes.
After a chilly nine holes, the ladies came in for a warm by the fire and hot chicken broth.
The ladies' committee have asked to remind all ladies about the nine-hole Christmas Texas Scramble followed by the Christmas lunch on Tuesday, December 21, and don't forget about the Secret Santa - ladies make sure you spend no more than £10.
Eunice Parkes, our wonderful cake baker, has made a wonderful Christmas cake. The ladies have put it on the end of the bar and are selling raffle tickets to guess the weight. It's all in aid of club funds, so come and buy your ticket today.
Don't forget, the winter league and eclectic are still being played - see Oliver in the Pro Shop for more details.
Rules Evening
Oliver's Wednesday rules nights have now come to end. After six weeks of members learning all about the rules of golf, the final night was exam night! Stuart Mills was winner after taking his examination. It was very informative and the next session will start after the new year - look out for posters on the notice boards.
Members' Night
Just a quick reminder about tonight's (Friday's) members night - curry night this month. We look forward to seeing you here.
Junior Section
This Sunday, December 12, is the Junior Christmas Texas Scramble and Dinner. There will be a 12-hole Texas Scramble, with teams of one adult and three juniors, at 12 noon, followed by lunch and fun in the bar. The day will also include putting and chipping competitions, and can you please sign up in the pro-shop if you are interested.
Adults are reminded that food is available from the bar menu - please let the terrace know of your intention to eat.
Tom, meanwhile, is looking forward to taking on all the juniors on Tiger Woods on the Wii.
