A Note From
Your Pro
Congratulations to Jason Truman and Pat Fletcher who won our bogey competition at the weekend in glorious sunshine.
The winter course programme is coming to a close, with both the new 2nd/9th and 7th tees looking good for play during the first week of Apri,l as well as several new pathways coming into play immediately.
A huge mention to the boys for their efforts over a terrible winter period. I'm certain the course will benefit throughout the season.
This weekend: This weekend sees the first Caddysure Qualifying competition for the Welsh Team Handicap Championships. Tee times are filling up quickly, so please reserve yours as soon as possible. For the ladies, we have a standard roll-up with normal tee booking in operation.
Juniors: Our first members coaching session is tomorrow (Saturday) at 1 pm. Please let me know if you intend coming. On Sunday there will be a Junior Stableford for Yellow/Red and Blue tee golfers from 1 pm.
Tip of the week: When putting, anchor your lower half to the floor and restrict all movement below the waist. Allow your lower half to act as a shelf for your shoulders to pivot on whilst reducing all movement in the wrists and elbows. The result is a smoother more repetitive stroke.
Ladies news
With many of our ladies away in sunny (or not so sunny?) Portugal at the moment, we actually had a reduced number of members turn up for the mid-week medal on Tuesday, March 9, and upon return to the clubhouse there was a general agreement of it not having been a very successful day, but everybody was in good spirits and had a good laugh about it.
Congratulations, however, go to Vicky Burks who returned a score of nett 77 and got herself a handicap reduction. Second place went to Linda Kromrei with a nett 82. Vicky Burks also got a birdie and won £7 credit as a result.
Please remember that midweek medals and stableford competitions are available to play all day to encourage even those people who work to still get a chance to enter.
On Saturday, March 13, the club held a par-bogey competition and, although the weather was very overcast, the course had dried up a lot, with its appearance being beautiful (thank you to the greenstaff) and it was a pleasure to play on.
Pat Fletcher won the competition with a score of 0 and Caroline Fletcher came second with -1, just beating Bethan Morris on countback.
The only birdie of the day was returned by Michelle Richards on the 15th hole after hitting the flagstick for two and then holing the putt for a three and therefore gaining £9 credit in the process.
Men's News
This week's midweek medal on Tuesday was a close fought competition, with three players all returning a nett score of 72 and, although James Maxwell shot a very decent gross 71, it was Jeremy Morris who took first place on countback, with Bob Burks taking second and James finishing third.
£15 pro-shop credit was awarded to John Bancroft for the birdie 2s.
On Thursday, March 11, the seniors held their weekly roll-up, with Mike Ansell winning with a very good 38 points and Roger Cryer finishing second with 36.
Sarturday's par-bogey competition bought with it some very good golf and Jason Truman won the competition with a score of 4, which also got him a handicap reduction.
Bob Burks, having come second on Tuesday, enjoyed a good week, because he took second place again on countback, with Allan Gwaith taking third.
It had been a good day for birdie 2s, with five being returned in total, Gareth Roberts and Angelo Zeraschi on the 3rd, Gary Heesom and Jason Truman on the 6th and Jeremy Morris on the 12th, each being awarded with £3.80 credit.
Please be aware that this Saturday is the qualifying round for the men's Caddysure Welsh team championship, which is a stableford competition that allows the top four players on the day to represent the club in the area finals, which will be held in Carmarthen on June 20, with the chance, if successful, to play in the final which will be held at the Celtic Manor at the beginning of August. Entry for this competition is only £1.
Clubhouse
news
After a very busy Mothering Sunday weekend, we have undertaken our annual maintenance and are pleased to say that the kitchen will now be re-open tomorrow (Saturday) and we look forward to seeing you.
Course news
After months of work on the course, we have now completed the 9th and 2nd new tee blocks. Meanwhile, the ladies tees on the 4th and 5th holes and the new white tee on the 14th hole are still under construction, but are due for completion before the summer.
Also work has been ongoing to improve the pathways around the course and these now include new paths between the 9th and 7th, from the 1st green to the 2nd tee, from the 6th green to the 7th tee and from the 10th green to the 11th tee, with a noticeable improvement being made to the general appearance of the course.
All of the course bunkers have been topped up with new sand and new bins have been placed around the course to help us keep it clean and tidy, so please use them.
Also, new ball washers have been provided.
New for 2010, Trefloyne are introducing a divot bag system where each player is encouraged to take a bag, situated near the first tee, which has been filled with Rootzone and grass seed and fill in their divots around the course, as we all know there is nothing worse than finding your ball sitting in someone else's divot.
