JUNIOR RESULTS

As you can see, these juniors have won 'Order of Merit' points. This is because from now on, Oliver is running an Order of Merit for all blue tee competitions. To be in with a chance of winning the 'Concept Golf Order of Merit' trophy, you will need to play at least 10 qualifying events throughout the year. The 10 best o.o.m. points will then count towards the competition. This is a very good way to encourage all juniors to come up and play in the ever-increasing Sunday junior competitions.

Tomorrow (Saturday): AJO Bowl, round one at Tenby; Trefloyne stableford competition, white tees.

Sunday, June 14: Junior Texas Scramble, 1 pm tee-off.

SENIORS

The return fixture against Derllys Court was played on Monday, June 1, at Bancyfelin, under Indian Summer conditions (writes Chip). It was so hot that halfway round, every golfer was gasping for a thirst quencher, so little wonder, after the 18th all the players made a 'bee line' to the bar for a pint of the amber nectar.

Needless to say, Rob Walters had a broad grin across his face as the till ticked away and the bar profits soared to unprecedented heights!

Back to golf. Leading the way was our captain Graham Harrison and Bob Burks against Dave Wood, captain of Derllys, who was partnered by the owner, Rob Walters. Rumour has it that Bob played splendidly, ably supported by Graham, who had quite a flourish towards the end of their round, and ran out winners by 4 and 2.

The Jones boys, Derek and Darrell, were second to grace the first tee and they were up against the formidable pairing of Frank Simmons and Clive Jones. This match see-sawed one way and then the other, with the host pair pinching the match 2 and 1.

The Kilgetty boys, Pat Casement and Trevor Lewis, followed and were opposed by Reg Powell and Phil Rogers. Again it was a 'ding dong' affair, with the visitors taking the spoils by 3 and 2.

Following hot in their spike marks were Gary 'soon to be wed' Hopkins with his 'best man' Barry Wood, whose opponents were Chris Palmer and Terry Priest. Apart from this being a super golf match, it was also an hilarious one, with the four exchanging jokes that cannot be printed in this family paper. The result was a 2 and 1 win for Gary and Barry.

Next off were Terry Harvey and Jack Zeraschi, opposed by Ian Robinson and Dave Evans. A close and enjoyable encounter ensued, with Terry getting a birdie on the notorious 15th. This seemed to knock the stuffing out of Ian and Dave, allowing Trefloyne to win 2 and 1.

Yet another pair of Jones boys, Glyn and Steve, took on John Rees and Eric Davies. Glyn and Steve played scintillating golf as their handicaps of 27 and 23, respectively ,indicate and they triumphed 3 and 2.

Last out were John Hargrave and late replacement Keith Warmington (just back from a Med cruise) against Les Burgoyne and Rick Lewis. Keith was way off form, still on the high seas one would imagine, and he and John went down 5 and 4. Les and Rick played amazingly well.

As already mentioned, the bar was the place, and after a thirst quencher or two, we all sat down to a superb meal, created and served by the Derllys family. Speeches then followed. Dave Wood welcomed Trefloyne and then handed the floor to Graham, who thanked Derllys for entertaining them and in the words of our leader "thanks for a fantastic day, fantastic company, the course played fantastic, the food was fantastic and finally the result, five games to two in favour of Trefloyn,e was fantastic." Needless to say, he is a fantastic captain!

Results: (Trefloyne names first): Graham and Bob bt Dave and Rob 4 and 2; Derek and Darrell lost to Frank and Clive 2 and 1; Pat and Trevor bt Reg and Phil 3 and 2; Gary and Barry bt Chris and Terry 2 and 1; Terry and Jack bt Ian and Dave 2 and 1. Glyn and Steve bt John and Eric 3 and 2; John and Keith lost to Les and Rick 5 and 4.

Whilst sipping a drink on the sun terrace which overlooks the 10th, I heard one of the players, who had just driven into the rough, say "All fairways should be made narrower, then everybody would have to play out of the rough, not just me!" Ponder this idea!

A Note From

Your Pro

Over the last few weeks, I have been fortunate enough to be spending time with the pupils of St. Florence and St. Teilo's primary schools, introducing them to the game using the Tri-Golf system. This system utilises plastic golf clubs and foam balls and is a safe and fun way of getting younger children into the game. We currently have several children between the ages of three and seven in the  Tiny Tigers academy here at Trefloyne learning the game in this way. If you would like to enroll your son or daughter into the academy or would like to know more, please give me a call on 01834 845639.

Futures Afternoon: Congratulations to Daniel Teising on winning this week's Futures Afternoon with a fantastic 23 points. He was pushed all the way by Ben Turner, who returned 22 points. Both boys have seen a severe drop in handicap and will soon be pushing for their full CONGU handicap. The next Futures Afternoon will take place this Sunday, June 14, at 1 pm.

Junior Open Day: The list for the Junior Open Day 2009 is now up in the Pro-Shop. This day is open to both members and non-members with blue tee and official CONGU handicaps. Please remember that all blue tee handicap golfers will require an adult to assist them.

June coaching offer: During the month of June, I will be running a three-lesson special offer for Trefloyne members at £50. This short course can be tailored to suit your needs, regardless of your standard, and is a great opportunity to tighten up your game during the season.

Captain/professional challenge matches: Club captain Dave McMann and I would like to offer members the opportunity to challenge us during the season in a four ball better ball matchplay format. If we are successful, then each competitor will  be required to pay into the captain's charity. If we lose the match, Dave and I will pay the £5 each into the charity. Those members who beat us will go forward into the Concept Golf Knockout Cup.

The following dates are available, so please contact me on 01834 845639 to arrange a match: Fridays, June 19 and July 3, 17, 31 and August 14, all at 5 pm.

Please note that other times and dates can be accommodated. Watch this space for news of lady captain/professional challenge dates next week.

Tip of the Week: Ninety per cent of golfers fade the ball as a result of their swing. In right-handed golfers, a fade causes the ball to move left to right (right to left for left-handed players). A higher percentage have suffered from a slice, whereby this movement in the air is more severe. The main contributing factor to a slice is an open club face at impact as the player struggles to get blade back to a square position. Next time your at the practice ground, make a few baseball swings focusing on trying to get the right hand (right-handed golfers) to rotate as it passes your sternum. The easiest way to think about this is to roll the palm of your right hand down to the ground so the club face closes. This action promotes a feeling of rotation which can be taken to the golf swing to reduce the chances of the club face being open at impact. Definitely a drill for the practice ground as timing is essential.

LADIES' SECTION

Unusually we have held three Stableford competitions in a row.

Firstly on Tuesday, May 26, Lind Cowerd won with 34 points, nearly coming off her 36 handicap. It won't be long Lind! Second was Olive Maher and third Jane Adams.

The following Saturday, Ann Dassen won with 33 points and Liz Crockford and Chris Collinson were second and third. Chris also won the bag draw on the day as there were no birdies!

Last Tuesday, Liz Crockford emerged triumphant with 34 points, pipping Rita Collins 33 (back nine) over Heather Thorne, also with 33 points.

On Saturday, we held our GUW Monthly Medal where the winner, Ann Dassen (nett 75), and Anne Morgan (nett 76) qualified to go through to the Rhian Pearn Competition at Neath GC in August.

Young Bethan Morris and Hari Truman represented Trefloyne at the C&PLGA Junior event at Haverfordwest on Saturday. Despite torrential rain, a nine-hole competition was still played and Hari went on to win her category.

We have since had an email from the organisers saying how impressed they were with both girls.

Congratulations to both of you - you are a real credit to us!
