A Note From Pro Oliver Duckett

Following the news of Harry Potter's visit to Pembrokeshire, it was great to see some of our members working their magic on the golf course during a testing week at Trefloyne.

With over 70 golfers attending Captain's Day, and the introduction of Futures Afternoon for our junior members, it really has been a busy week. Please take a look below at a few of the results, and the events we have coming up.

Futures Afternoon

A huge congratulations to the juniors who braved the elements on Sunday to compete in Futures Afternoon. A nine hole Blue Tee Stableford competition took place in extremely windy conditions, with Lewis Ensor coming through to win with 10 stableford points. Please remember Futures Afternoon will take place every Sunday at 1pm.

Free Ladies Golf Coaching!

In conjunction with Ryder Cup Wales 2010 and following the success of last year's ladies group coaching, we will be holding a free ladies afternoon on Sunday, June 7, at 2 pm. This is a great opportunity for all ladies interested in game to develop their skills in a fun and relaxed environment. For more information or to register, please drop me an email on [email protected]">[email protected] or call me on 845639.

Tee for Two!

Want to try something new with your loved one? I receive several enquiries a week from potential golfers who cant find the time to play the game due to family constraints. Tee for two is a new concept to Trefloyne Golf Club, aimed at couples looking to start the game together. On Sunday, June 21, at 2 pm, we will be offering free group coaching sessions for couples new to the game of golf. Please give me a call for more information or to register.

20 Minute Swing MOT

With more and more members taking advantage of the free swing MOT, I have decided to extend the offer until the end of the month. Please pop your head in next time your at the club to get your session booked.

Tip of The Week

Tension in the golf swing can be hugely detrimental to your golf swing causing not only a negative effect to your golf swing, but also to your body. Next time your nearing the end of your round and you feel those bad swings creeping in, look simply at your grip. Most tension stems from the grip, which can be easily reduced by releasing grip pressure. For right-handed players, hold the club lightly in the back three fingers of your left hand as if squeezing a tube of toothpaste. The forefinger and thumb of the left hand sit alot lighter on the club, as does the right hand, just enough to stop someone pulling the club out of your hands. Notice the release in pressure and the increased awareness of the club in your hands.

Trefloyne Seniors

Monsoon type torrential rain brought this very interesting fixture to an abrupt halt at the half-way stage at Glyn Abbey on Thursday, May 14 (writes Chip). Play had to be abandoned due to waterlogged fairways and greens. It was muted that a gnome, plus fishing rod, was seen on the ninth green!

At this stage, the hosts were in a very strong position, leading by 7.5 to 2.5, however, the two captains made a very sensible decision to call the result null and void, with the rearrangement of this fixture a distinct possibility later in the season.

This decision saw the drenched golfers squelch their weary way towards the 19th to quench their thirsts with a pint of two and to fill the inner man with the scrumptious meal that the caterers, with all hands on deck, brilliantly and tastefully produced a few hours prior to schedule. Very many thanks from all our intrepid 'oldies'.

Play commenced in overcast, yet pleasant conditions. Our leader, Graham, partnered by Bob B. took on Roy and Wrennik. Graham and Bob were in scintillating form and after winning the first hole with a birdie, never looked back and were three up when the weather intervened.

Alan and Jack against Viv and Meic followed them and they were three down when rain stopped play.

Derek and Terence opposed by Eddie and Wyn were next off and a very close match ensued with our boys one down at the turn.

At number four were Darrell and Garfield against Roger and Dai J. Although the host pair started off with a bang, steady golf enabled our pair to restrict them to a one hole lead.

Last week's runaway winners, Gary and Barry W., were next to go, with Brian and Ken as opponents, and they were certainly brought down to earth with an almighty bump as the Glyn Abbey pair went two up after two holes and never looked like surrendering their lead when play was abandoned.

John J. and Glyn then 'graced' the first against Mike, playing off five- and Lawson, and sorry to say were never in the match and were four down as the rain came down.

There was a rare success story for Terry and Steve who took on Brian and Tony. Both our lads produced superb shots to be three up when it all ended.

Barry T. and Dave were next in play opposed by Dai L. and Peter. This again was a very close encounter with the hosts just edging it by one hole.

The closest match was undoubtly between John S. and Peter against Ken and Dave as the score of all-square shows. There was no separating this set of players.

Last off was the 'Geordie' pairing of John H. and Bob S. with Bobby and Dai E. providing the opposition. Once again, a ding-dong match with the 'Geordies' being one down at the Monsoons!

After food, Roy (Glyn Abbey) and Graham (Trefloyne) made their very amusing speeches and both thanked the players for their participation. The caterers were gratefully thanked for the superb meal, served at very short notice, and devoured by the famished players.

A very very big thank you is extended to Garfield who stood in at the very last minute due to a player pulling out of the team at almost tee-time. Gentlemen, if you are unable to play, after putting your names on the list, please contact your captain at least 24 hours prior to the match. This is essential.

Our next fixture is at home to South Pembs. on Thursday, May 28, 12 noon start. All players are asked to be at Trefloyne by 11.30 am at the latest. Please get your names down as soon as possible once the sheet is pinned on the noticeboard.

Results (Trefloyne first): Graham Harrison and Bob Burks three up against Roy Griffiths and Wrennick Morris; Alan Chapman and Jack Zeraschi three down against Viv Jenkins and Meic Bowen; Derek Jones and Terence Morgan one down against Eddie Alderton and Wyn Williams; Darrell Jones and Garfield Price one down against Roger Davies and Dai Jermia; Gary Hopkins and Barry Wood two down against Brian John and Ken Bull; John James and Glyn Jones four down against Mike Wilkins and Lawson Williams; Terry Harvey and Steve Jones three up against Brian Niles and Tony Hancock; Barry Thorne and Dave Crowley one down against Dai Lloyd and Peter Davies; John Shepherd and Peter Scrivens halved against Ken Chislett and David Jones; John Hargrave and Bob Simpson one down against Bobby Sandon and Dai Evans.

Finally, sympathies are extended to Rob Evans and his family at this sad time for them.
