St. David's day event
Last Saturday morning saw the pro-shop and clubhouse buzzing with a turnout of 60 competitors, ranging from juniors to seniors, for the St. David's Day competition.
And who could blame them. The weather was almost spring-like and they knew, waiting for them afterwards would be the delicious Welsh food - cooked by Arno, Helen and the team - they had pre-ordered, from cawl with Welsh rarebit to lamb shank.
As 9.30 am approached, the players headed out to their chosen first tees, awaiting the shotgun start.
A big thank you must go to the ladies' captain, Ann Dassen. For, although she couldn't play, Ann had a little table set up between the ninth green and 10th tee, and handed out tea, coffee and Welsh cakes for the duration of the competition, which was welcoming as the wind seemed to get colder as the morning went on.
After all the players had come in and enjoyed their lunch, Ann, with the help from Sue, sold raffle tickets, from which £130 was raised.
The results were then called out, starting with the men's:
A four-way tie for first place with 39 pts - Nick Griffiths, Mark Ensor, Andrew Burgess and James Maxwell (£11 trophy voucher each)
Nearest the pin on the 12th - Jeremy Morris (£25 trophy voucher); longest drive on the 18th - John Calleja (£25 trophy voucher); birdie 2s - Simon Arthur, Phil Catlin, Rob Evans and Paul Howells (£8 trophy voucher each).
