Simon's trousers

Last Saturday was at last a warm, sunny, spring-like day, so it was rather strange that one of our members came into the pro shop in his waterproof trousers. He enquired if we had a pair of trousers to fit him, as he began to take his waterproofs downs! The trousers underneath had a large tear in an embarrassing place.

He sallied out to play in his new ones, but only a few minutes late rang in a bit of a panic. He had dumped his old trousers in the men's locker room bin, but had left his wedding ring in one of the pockets. We dashed in there and retrieved said trousers with wedding ring still in situ. Phew!

Luck was obviously with him, as he carded a magnificent 44 stableford points and won the competition. Well done Simon!

In joint second place were Andrew Burgess and James Maxwell with 39 points. This now brings James down to +0.1 - the only plus player in the club.

Player profile

This week's profile comes from 50-year-old club captain, Dave Mcmann. In the heat of Ghana, West Africa, Dave was a tender five years of age when he started playing golf, following in the footsteps of his mum and dad. Dave's starting handicap (and worst) was 24 and his best has been 12.

He plays with 13 clubs, of which, his driver and woods are Callaway, irons are Mizuno and wedges are Titleist. The Titleist 52º wedge is his favourite.

Dave admires Steve Ballesteros, mostly, in golf, "for his approach to the game brings a new dimension," but would most like to play a game with Colin Montgomery. Dave has met the famous snooker player Willie Thorne; this just so happened to be a charity event for the NSPCC at none other than Trefloyne.

Although Ghana in itself is a pretty exotic place to play golf, the favourite course Dave has played is Mid Ocean golf club in Bermuda.

As far as embarrassing and memorable moments go, they could almost be rolled into one. For on the first day of the 2007 club championship, Dave scored a net 68. Unfortunately, on the second day, he scored a net 98! Oh dear.

When asked what he is hoping to achieve while club captain, Dave replied: "For all members to enjoy playing their golf in the sunshine! On a continually improving course. This year should see a lot of changes and improvements at Trefloyne."

Thank you, Dave, for completing the questionnaire.

Please note: Captain's Day has changed to May 16. This is to allow Ann Dassen, ladies' captain, time to make a full recovery from her recent surgery, and be able to play. April 4 will now be a Monthly Medal, with the draw for the matchplay competition taking place on the same day. Please make sure you have put six qualifying cards in before, to enter. Full details of this can be found on the notice board.
