Friday, October 24, the Trefloyne Ladies' Section held their presentation dinner for 2008.
Despite many ladies away on holidays, more than 25 members were able to attend.
The evening began with a champagne toast to the Trefloyne Three Counties team who were victorious in their first season in the league.
Kim and Joan Beynon happily supplied the champers after losing the bet to Di Neale (team manager) from earlier in the season. The incentive proved worthwhile. An excellent three-course meal followed before the presentations began.
Trophies presented were as follows:
Monthly Medal winners: Fair Ball, Beth McMann, Ann Dassen, Vicky Burks, Gwyneth Jewitt, Linda Kromrei, Sue Shooter.
Bluebelle Medal winners: Chris Lewis, Chris Collinson.
Dragon Brooch: Vicky Burks.
Bronze Medal: Heather Thorne, Glenda Pearce, Kirsi Jaakola, Sue Shooter.
Winter Eclectic: Fair Ball.
Winter League: Sue Crowley.
Endeavour Shield: Kristalle Blum.
Most Improved Lady: Sue Crowley.
Most Improved Junior: Bethan Morris.
A special presentation was made to Kristalle Blum for her participation in two matches for the league team. She has become the youngest player in the county at only 10 years of age.
Congratulations were given to all ladies who had qualified and represented the club at events around Wales during the year. They all keep putting Trefloyne on the map and showing what a great club we are becoming.
Thanks and flowers went to Helen and Arno Tiesing for all their service throughout the year, to Joan for the continued support that she and the Beynon family give, to Di Neale as manager and organiser for the league team and Christine Burton, head professional, for her continual efforts, hard work and support she gives the ladies.
Ann Dassen, vice-captain, made a special presentation to Olive Maher, outgoing lady captain, for her commitment to the ladies' section and help and guidance she has provided in a transitional year. The ladies' section hope that Olive has a well deserved break after the annual general meeting in November.
With the formalities over, fun, jokes and merriment continued, as the evening went on in to the early hours of the morning.
It is only four short years ago that the ladies' section at Trefloyne had less than five regular competition players.
After three years of trying, they fielded a league team, which in its first year won the competition and all the other clubs had to take note.
The ladies of Trefloyne now have over 40 members playing competition golf and the future continues to look bright, with another group of beginner ladies, who were welcomed at the dinner, ready to spread their wings on the fairways over the next few weeks. Well done girls and let's make it back-to-back next year (just not as close a margin, thanks)!
