CHARITY DAY
Friday, June 13, saw 24 teams compete in the NSPCC Charity Golf Day held at Trefloyne Golf Club. Cool but with sunny spells, the players enjoyed perfect golfing conditions as they battled in the team stableford competition. The best two scores of three kept the pressure on. After a very civilised halfway Pimms tent, the players enjoyed the best of the sunshine over the final nine holes. The eventual winners of all three main prizes were Trefloyne members (they must have known something the rest didn't!). The first team prize was won by Bob, Vicky and Colin Burks with a great score of 87 points. Runners-up with 84 were Roger Cryer, John Bancroft and Darrell Jones. The secret six winners (highest score on six unknown holes) were Paul Comber, Chris Thompson and Mike Bevan. The main sponsor of the day was Tenby House Hotel who must be thanked publicly for their support and generosity. Through team entries and sponsorship, the total amount raised for the Saundersfoot branch of the NSPCC and Childline was a terrific £4,000. Grateful thanks to all.
COMPETITION RESULTS
Tuesday, June 17, saw eight pairs play the Mixed Greensome (Gruesome) Foursomes. Winners were John James and Ann Dassen on 40 pts. They both receive £5 pro-shop credit. Friday, June 20, was another fun night, this time a bisque stableford, with the first group from 27 players teeing off at 5 pm. It was a pleasant evening, cooling off later on, but Arno's hot food on the barbie kept everyone warm - despite the seagulls threatening to add 'extra dressing' to the chicken tortilla wraps. Thanks to Anne-Marie for totting up the scores and to Ann for announcing the winners and giving out the prizes. Winners were as follows: men - Harry Jaakola on 20 pts; ladies - Dee Truman on 24 pts; juniors - Ben Turner on 18 pts. They all received Callaway balls. The evening finished with Ann announcing that the next fun night would be a Texas Scramble. This will be on July 4 to tie in with American Independence Day. To most of the juniors' delight, you will be allowed to wear jeans for this event, plus any other cowboy attire you may have lurking in the back of your cupboard. Tee off is between 5 and 6 pm, with the usual happy hour and barbecue. Saturday, June 21, saw the second leg of the AJO Bowl played at home. Despite the miserable weather, 106 players turned out, and there were some good scores. Leaders for the day were Huw Roberts (Tenby), on 40 pts, Martin Yates (Trefloyne) 39 pts and Fair Fraser (Trefloyne), who shot 34 pts. Well done to everyone who played.
