Dormel Trophy
Saturday saw a respite in the weather for a change and the sun came out for the best part of the morning, which bode well for the many that turned up for the first silverware competition of the year, the Dormel Trophy. Rob Evans won with 36 pts, and a birdie 2 going to Andrew Burgess, winning £17 pro-shop credit. Vicky Burks was the ladies' winner with 28 pts. There were no birdie 2s, although the bag draw went to Anna Hubbard, winning £4 pro-shop credit.
Juniors
The first junior competition for 2008 is this Sunday. It's a nine-hole Texas Scramble, teeing off at 11 am - please try and arrive by 10.45 am, if possible. The list is in the pro-shop, so please add your name if you wish to take part. Let's hope the weather stays dry-ish!

Australia Day is Saturday, January 26. This is an individual stableford, so it doesn't matter who you're playing alongside. Spaces are filling up quickly, so be sure to put your name on the list in the pro-shop to avoid disappointment. The annual general meeting is on Friday, January 25, at 7.30 pm. Nomination sheets are in the bar.
New year, new faces
Since January 1, husband and wife team, Arno and Helen Tiesing, have taken over the kitchen. I reckon Arno's food must be pretty good, because the last two weeks have seen the dining room fully booked for Sunday lunch. In fact, some people, sadly, had to be turned away. But, fear not, as from this week, the other dining room will be open, so many more of you can enjoy the much talked about new chef and his food. May we remind you to book early to avoid disappointment. And watch this space, as Arno and Helen have lots of new ideas coming your way.
New Seniors Trophy
A new trophy has been donated to the Seniors for a Seniors Aggregate Trophy. This event runs over 10 months, starting on Thursday, January 31, and ending on October 23. It is run once per month and all dates are in the 2008 fixture list. The competition will be an individual stableford off the yellow tees, open to seniors (at January 1, 2008) only. It will be played in groups of three, teeing off 8.45 to 9.30 am (the first tee will be reserved for this competition). It will be based on a genuine roll- up. You must sign in at the pro-shop before going out and as each three will be formed on the basis of order of sign-in, that three will play together that day. The best stableford score receives 10 points, second eight points, third six points etc. down to fifth receiving two points, and results are aggregated for the full 10 months. Although ten cards may be entered for this competition, it is expected that most players will only complete seven or eight for the full season, so do not be too concerned if you miss some games. A leader board will be put up so that all players know how they compare as they go through the season. Entry is £10 for the full 10-game competition and must be paid up front. Prizes are a new trophy (to be presented at the Seniors AGM) plus 50 per cent of the prize fund, 2nd receives 25 per cent of fund, 3rd 15 per cent and 4th 10 per cent. All of the entry fees go 100 per cent into the prize fund for this event.
