The Dyfed League match on Sunday against Priskilly was extremely hard fought and produced some really high quality matches, but regrettably Trefloyne were no match for the visitors and lost six to one. The first round of the AJO Bowl, a joint stableford competition with the members of Tenby, took place in fine weather at Trefloyne on Saturday, June 16. The competition was very well supported by members of both clubs and some very good scores were recorded. In the Men's, nine of the first 14 places were taken by Trefloyne players, with Sam Anderson coming in with 40 points, Martin Yates and Mike Ansell both scoring 39, Scott Roberts on 38 and Gerald John on 37. In the Ladies, Tenby took the lead with the best two scores going to their members. For Trefloyne, Ceryn Harries was third on 36 points, Sue Shooter on 35 and Michelle Richards on 33. Both the Wesley House singles and the Laidler Cup singles, which have been in progress for two months, have reached the quarter-finals stage. In the Wesley House singles, Jeremy Morris, Ben Price, Nick Griffiths, Malcolm Ruff, Meurig Evans, Simon Arthur, Bill Myers and Gerald John have all won their matches and are through to the quarter- finals. Matches must be played by July 29. In the Laidler Cup singles, Viv Jones, Keith Warmington, Gareth Roberts, Bob Burkes, Trevor Lewis, Dave Crowley, Alun Phillips and Ken Karlstedt are all through. These matches must also be played by July 29.
THE LADIES
A new sub-section of the Ladies, specially formed for the more alcohol abusive, held its first competition on the 19th. The event was a Texas Scramble. It was originally probably planned to have been played over 18 holes, but such was the enthusiasm of some of the Ladies to distance themselves from reality for the rest of the day, the event was played over just nine holes, followed by a large cooked breakfast and buck's fizz in the clubhouse. Later that day three ladies were found snoring gently in a corner of the bar and had to be sent home by taxi. The winning team was Barbara Evans, Vicky Burkes, Liz Crockford and Chris Harris.
THE SENIORS
The Seniors visited South Pembs. on June 14. Weather conditions were not too pleasant and it was decided to wait until one o'clock before making a decision as to whether to play. Thankfully the worst of the rain passed and the match went ahead. Unfortunately, Trefloyne were two players short, one failed to turn up and the other didn't want to play in the rain. Apart from a couple of brief showers, the day turned out very well, finishing with hot sunshine. The match was closely fought and ended all- square. Results were as follows: B. Norman and M. Neale lost to B. Williams and E. Pennington 6 and 5; A. Chapman and D. Evans beat M. McCormack and R. Davies 4 and 3; G. Harrison and B. Burkes lost to J. George and D. Wright 3 and 2; D. Jones and A. Hicks beat H. James and C. Pitten 4 and 3; R. Evans and M. Beely beat M. Leighs and J. McHale 3 and 2; J. James shared with M. Williams and P. Bowling; G. Jones lost to K. Dewhurst and T. Pearce; G. Price and J. Shepard lost to B. Phillips and K. Chichester 6 and 5; G. Hopkins and W. Hopkins beat J. Boyd and S. Harries 2 up; J. Bancroft and J. Cliff halved with L. Jones and H. Davies. Thanks were voiced to the ground staff for the excellent course, and to the caterers for a very enjoyable meal.
THE JUNIORS
The May Monthly Medal for juniors was won by Samuel Jackson with a very impressive nett 68. The June Medal was won by Elliott Scotcher with an even finer nett 66. Congratulations are due to both of these juniors for two very excellent performances. The Junior Stableford competition held on June 3 was won by Jake Marsh on 41 points and the 12- hole winner was Luke Harris on 28 points. It is clear that both of these two deserve a visit from the handicap secretary. For juniors who have joined the club just recently, a Junior Induction Night is being held for them and their parents on July 19 to explain some of the rules of golf and the etiquette. More information is available from the Pro's Shop.
