Mathew McMann has taken on the role of junior organiser at Trefloyne Golf Club. At just 18 years of age, Matt brings a new enthusiasm and commitment to encouraging both new and existing junior members at the club. He is joined by Ceryn Harris, who will be looking after the junior girls. James Maxwell has been announced as junior captain until the end of the season and Ben Price is vice-captain. WINTER LEAGUE HOTTING UP Now into week 13, the winter league leaders are starting to show their stuff. With the requirement being the best 12 of 16 rounds, players now have the chance to throw out those bad ones. It has become a race of who can complete enough rounds to stay in the running. Division One sees Graham Longster a clear leader on 360 points after week 12, followed by Danny Brown on 337. Danny, however, is one round down and this week could be a deciding factor. Junior, James Maxwell is in third position on 331, but down on two rounds. Despite only returning 11 cards so far, Dave Crowley leads Division Two on 351 points, with many players close behind, including John Hill 346 (12 rounds) and Bob Maxwell 344 (12 rounds). Paul Mills finds himself back in the running on 343 (12 rounds) after a brilliant 44 pts last Sunday and Gil Thomas one shot further back on 342 (11 rounds).
CHRIS's WEEKLY TIP
Why is it that some days one never seems to get a flat lie? Don't despair, be prepared for all those varying lies. When you understand and remember one, all the others are easy. Uphill lie: Place ball forward in stance, weight leaning to back foot. Body must be perpendicular to lie of ground. For a right-handed player ball will draw to left. Ball flight will be higher, so take more club and swing normally, feeling up on follow through. Downhill lie is the opposite. Ball above feet: Grip club shorter, stand more erect and position ball in centre of stance. Swing will be much flatter and around your body (like a baseball swing), so aim right (right-handed player) as ball will turn left. Ball below feet: Take a longer club and lean right over ball, with ball in centre of stance. Swing will be very upright, so ball will fly right (right-handed player), so aim left. Remember, with any awkward stance or lie, that by swinging smoother and slightly slower, we have a chance of keeping a better balance and making a clean connection. Come and visit Christine this Sunday, February 11, when she will be holding a one day only sale with up to 70 per cent off all in store from 8 am - 6 pm.
