AUSTRALIA DAY COMPETITION

After what seems like months of rain, Saturday saw a fine morning dawn at Trefloyne as the Australia Day Stableford competition got underway. With the Aussie flag flying proudly above the skyline, the day is becoming a not to be missed event. A total of 94 players tried their hand at winning the coveted individual prize. Trefloyne members were joined by 28 visitors from around Dyfed in a day where the halfway sausage sizzle (so ably cooked by Aussie Graham and helper Gareth) and beers is more important than the golf. Bill Beynon from Tenby was looking like the winner with a great 40 pts, until late local player Terry Harvey strolled home with 41 to pip him at the post. Terry now has some hard decisions to make amongst friends and family as to who will accompany him on his winning trip to Ireland as he gets to enjoy a two-night stay at Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links in Dublin as his prize for such a fantastic score. In third place on 39 pts was Paul Howells, who never seems far off the money. The leading lady was Vicky Burks with 28 pts and she took home a prized opal, courtesy of the South Australian Tourist Commission. She was followed by Liz Crockford and Sheila Phillips in joint second place. The men's nearest the pin on the 12th was won by Dylan Phillips and the longest drive on the 18th by Chris Thompson. Sheila Phillips was the ladies longest drive winner and, although Di Neale won the 12th hole nearest the pin, unfortunately she was also the recipient of the ladies NAGA award. Ken Small followed up last year's performance with a second NAGA award. Obviously the one lesson wasn't enough to remove him from the bottom of the ladder. It seems he just wanted another free lesson. Let's not make it three in a row next year, Ken. Thanks to Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links and SA Tourist Commission for their sponsorship of the day. Thanks also to the members and guests for making the day what it is designed to be, lots of fun! And not one mention of the cricket. SECOND BIRTHDAY RAFFLE

The Trefloyne Proshop second birthday raffle was drawn at the conclusion of play on Saturday, with the winners being as follows: 1. Gerald John - Cobra HS9 driver; 2.
