On Saturday, nine members of the 1st Kilgetty Scout Group went to the Jubilee Park, East Williamston, to plant an oak tree to celebrate a 100 years of Scouting in 2007. This was put with the trees and hedge planted in 2005 to celebrate 25 years since the formation of 1st Kilgetty group. They also helped plant other trees as part of Plant a Tree Week. "Our thanks go to Ian Wilkinson, East Williamston Association secretary, for all his help and support," said group scout leader, Daphne Gwyther. "Next year, 2007, is an important year in Scouting history as it was 100 years since Lord Baden-Powell held his first Scout camp on Brownsea Island in August 1907," she continued. And Pembrokeshire Scouts are holding a number of special events for all of the members to take part in throughout the year. On Sunday, March 4, there is a Medieval Extravaganza, Craft Fair and Banquet at Pembroke Castle, between 10 am and 4 pm. Everyone is more than welcome. Activities include jousting, archery, lace-making, spinning, potter, quoits, giant chess, circus skills and greasy pole, to name a few. Normal castle admissions apply. Sunday, April 22, will find the movement at St. David's Cathedral celebrating St. George's Day, the patron saint of Scouting, with a parade and service. From May 25 to 28, there will be a centenary camp for all members of Scouting, from the young to the not so young. There are a lot of activities and demonstrations already booked for this marvellous event. On August 1, Scouts will be renewing their promises at 8 am, along with Scout members all around the world. It is hoped this can be held at Llys Y Fran Reservoir, followed by a barbecue breakfast. It is going to be a very busy next year and it is hoped that anyone who has been in Scouting at all will be able to join in some of the events.

Seen planting the tree are group chairman Mr. Phil Griffith, association secretary Mr. Ian Wilkinson and group scout leader Mrs. Daphne Gwyther, together with members, Matthew, Joel, Darcy, Alex, Brittany, Christopher, Joe, Nathan and Thomas.
