Former pupils of Pembrokeshire secondary schools under 16 years of age are reminded that the Wynford Davies Travelling Scholarship valued at £500 is on offer to the successful candidate again this year. The scholarship was established in memory of a distinguished Director of Education for Pembrokeshire (1957-74) and is awarded annually to young persons likely to benefit from travelling in the UK or abroad as a means of broadening their horizons and educational experiences. In fact, during the 16 years since its inception all the successful candidates have travelled abroad to most parts of the globe, including America, Russia, Europe, Far and Middle East, Australia. Last year's winner, Sarah Beynon from St. Davids, travelled as part of a Conservation Expedition to Indonesia. Applicants wishing to be considered should submit a letter setting out their education background and reasons for requiring the scholarship. Candidates are then short-listed and interviews undertaken during the Easter vacation to determine the successful applicant. The closing date is February 24, and applications should be directed to Mr. T. A. L. Davies, Clerk of the Trustees, 3, Picton Close, Crundale, Haverfordwest (tel: 01437 764953).
