A 20-month-old heifer which slipped down the cliff at Giltar Point and became trapped at the base with an incoming tide was brought to safety by emergency rescue crews on Wednesday.

The RNLI inshore lifeboat crew teamed up with the RSPCA and Tenby coast rescue team to recover the bewildered animal.

An RSPCA inspector was taken ashore to help supervise the recovery which involved the calf being floated and towed gently to the safety of Tenby's South Beach.

The head of the calf was cradled against the sponson during the short passage until it found its hooves on the soft sand and was able to walk up the beach.

The young cow was checked over and appeared unharmed from the ordeal. She stayed in a barn in a local farm overnight where she could be kept under observation.
