Two girls trapped on rocks near Tenby on Sunday raised the alarm about their predicament through Facebook.

Amazingly, Tenby RNLI volunteer Ross Edwards was online at the time and spotted the message. He insisted that the girls should phone Milford Haven Coastguard to call for help immediately.

Just after 4 pm, Milford Haven Coastguard requested the launch of Tenby inshore RNLI lifeboat after receiving a call from the girls who reported being trapped on rocks to the east of Waterwynch Bay.

On arrival, the volunteer lifeboat crew found two females who were cold, but otherwise unhurt. They were recovered from the rocks and taken on board the RNLI lifeboat back to Tenby Harbour where members of Tenby coastguard rescue team were waiting.

Phil John, Tenby RNLI coxswain, said: "It was pure coincidence that one of our volunteer crew was on Facebook at the time. We would never encourage people to rely on this method, but to call 999 and call the coastguard should they ever find themselves in trouble.

"This was certainly an unusual scenario for us, we never want to see a situation where people delay calling for help. RNLI crew are on call 24/7 and would rather people call us immediately if they think they are in danger."
