Traffic calming measures along two busy roads in Tenby are being considered by the county council's head of highways.

Following traffic surveys carried out along Heywood Lane and Narberth Road, at the request of members of Tenby Town Council, the authority's Darren Thomas, has written to councillors giving an update.

"A proposal has been put to the two county members for a 20 mph limit in those areas," he said in a letter which came before councillors at their meeting on Tuesday night.

"Clr. Mike Evans considers the current speeds to be too high for a 20 mph limit using signage alone.

"Therefore, we are looking into the idea of introducing a 20 mph zone with speed cushions being included in the scheme.

"As you are probably aware, 20 mph zones with cushions can be controversial, and an appropriate balance needs to be achieved, based on each specific location," stated Mr. Thomas, who added that he would give further feedback on the proposal when he received any updates.

Discussing the issue, Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter felt a lot of traffic problems would be lifted if there was a proper clampdown on parking along Serpentine Road, which sits near the three Tenby schools, as buses leaving the schools experienced problems travelling along the route.

"Bus drivers don't have to go along there; it would be more appropriate if they came out of say Greenhill School and turned right instead," commented Clr. Mike Evans. "That would help alleviate some problems."
