Pedestrianisation of Tenby's walled town comes to an end on Sunday.

Since Saturday, July 22, vehicle restrictions have been in operation every day between 11 am and 5 pm.

This year, the nature of the traffic order prohibiting vehicles from entering the walled town has changed from previous years, following a public inquiry into the order.

The experimental order by Pembrokeshire County Council has seen the walled town divided into three areas, with varying degrees of permitted access to each area.

A meeting to discuss this year's scheme with all key groups will take place later this month. According to Inspector Les Clark, of the town's police station, the scheme has run without any serious concerns.

The level of offending has reduced with only 38 fixed penalty notices being issued so far by wardens in respect of offences connected to the scheme.

As in previous years, the traffic warden establishment in the town has been augmented for the summer period by the addition of two seasonal wardens to monitor cases of anti-social parking.

"Both wardens were students who learnt quite a lot about human behaviour during this summer experience," said Insp Clark.

Since April, officers and traffic wardens have issued at least 850 fixed penalty notices for parking offences.
