An entry of 94 calves on Tuesday saw bull calves selling to a top price of £140 for a Belgian Blue from Picton Davies, of Asgood Farm, St. Clears, and Thomas, Gellifelen, Tavernspite, with heifers peaking at £160 for a Friesian breeding heifer, also from Thomas, Gellifelen. Other top bids included: bull calves - £140 from Mr Thomas; £122 and £100 from Evans, Ffynnonwen, Login - all Belgian Blue crosses; heifers made £116 from Scourfield, Windberry Top Farm, Begelly; and £90 from Woolley, Pencraig Isaf, Cwmbach - Belgian Blue and Simmental crosses respectively. Sheep entries totalled 1,189 with 561 approved lambs forward selling to a top price of 109.50p/kg for 34.5 kilo lambs from Howell, White Hook, Clarbeston Road, and averaged overall 103.16p per kilo. Other leading prices included: 108.6p/kg (40.5 kilos) and 106p/kg (41.5 kilos) from Monahan, Biggins Hill Farm, Waterston; 107.6p/kg (39 kilos) from John, Pantyderi Farm, Whitland; 107.4p/kg (27 kilos) from Jones, Wernbongam, Llanarthney. Non-approved lambs sold to 103.10p per kilo and averaged 93.31p per kilo. Cull ewes, rams and wethers, numbering 602, sold to a top price of £47 for heavy cull ewes from Edwards, Penbryn Park, Whitemill, and averaged £35.20, while lighter types sold to £31 and averaged £20.71. Cull rams sold to £40 and averaged £29.
