AS a teenager, Mr. Wyndham Scourfield was among those present at the 1940 wartime bombing of the oil tanks in Pembroke Dock.

He was just 17 at the time, but 70 years on, he returned to Pembroke Dock for a commemorative service and to read out the roll of honour.

Wyndham later became a member of the retained fire service stationed in Narberth's Nestor Square, eventually moving to the present site in Springfield Gardens.

"He was a leader of men and I had the pleasure of serving with him," said Mayor of Narberth, Clr. Colin Williams, who recently presented him with a town plaque.

"It's an honour worthy of the gentleman," added Clr. Williams. "Thanks Wyndham for all you have done for the town, and the fire brigade."
